Using the great potential of renewable energy sources for electricity generation does not mean they are competing with fossil fuels
In the opening ceremony of 4th Seminar of solar power plants, the Deputy Minister of Energy and head of SATBA mentioned that Iran has got oil and gas resources and also the potential of using renewable energy especially solar energy and stated that if using renewable energy in power production develops, Iran will be able to use different petrochemical products with high value both for domestic use and exportation instead of burning the existing valuable fossil resources in order to produce electricity.
He continued noting that more than 70 Megawatt solar power plants and more than 3200 solar rooftops units exist already in Iran and all of these developments have started four years later with the cooperation and investment of non-governmental sector and people via legal processes (that is, the tariffs are estimated according to the type of technology and power plant capacity), all the applicants with different economic levels can cooperate in building renewable energy power plants. Dr. Sadeghzadeh ended his statement focusing on the announcement of tariffs of export of renewable electricity in 2018 and stated that the considerable potential of renewable energy in Iran provided the export of the country with special opportunities for the private section. He also emphasized that according to more than 30000 Megawatt capacity in renewable electricity exportation in Iran, this must be completely done by private sector. The government only plays its role as a supporter and facilitator.
